On the 18th of March Joffe Books are proud to be releasing Into Deadly Storms by Norfolk author Judi Daykin, where Detective Sara Hirst returns in this crackling, twisty thriller set in the mysterious beauty of North Norfolk.
DS Sara Hirst is the creation of Norfolk based author Judi Daykin. A graduate of the UEA MA in Creative Writing, Judi was determined that her stories would be set in the countryside around her own home.
“I’ve lived in Norfolk for over forty years, and I love the countryside on the north coast. I love the big skies and the patchwork of small villages, the seaside resorts, the wide beaches and the network of back lanes. It has such a strong identity that I knew it could be a major factor in the crimes that I wanted to write about. People often think of Norfolk as the pleasant holiday destination they remember from childhood or a family day out by the sea. But it also has it’s dark side, and policing in rural communities presents very different challenges to those in a city.”
“My stories are gritty police procedurals which reflect the idea that great beauty can sometimes conceal great violence. When I completed my first novel, Under Violent Skies in 2019, it was shortlisted for the Little, Brown UEA Student Writers award because the judges loved my sense of place.”
Into Deadly Storms is the second Norfolk murder for DS Sara Hirst to solve, and it’s a tough one. She is trying to get justice for a teenager in care by following a web of leads that seem to go nowhere. Add a London criminal on the run, and the problems multiply.
Judi said “I was over the moon when Joffe Books wanted to publish my books, as some of my favourite authors, such as Joy Ellis and Faith Martin, are with the same publisher. They are helping me develop a series of novels, and all will feature the glorious Norfolk countryside.”
Joffe Books are one of the UK’s leading independent book publishers. Founded in 2014 by Jasper Joffe, they specialise in regional crime fiction. DS Sara Hirst novels are available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited and as a paperback through Amazon.
