From the multi-coloured paintings on the fridge door to the artistic creations which still adorn the Christmas tree, your mum loves homemade gifts from her children.

We have a delicious idea to delight her on Mother’s Day (19th March). At Jarrold, our scones have reached iconic status around the streets of Norfolk and we want to share that love with you and your mother on her special day.

Serve with Richard Bainbridge Strawberry & Rose Preserve (£5.00) and a dollop of fresh clotted cream, and spend the day enjoying a good natter and delicious cake.

Ingredients:  makes approximately 15

• 500g Self Raising Flour

• 125g Butter, unsalted

• 80g Caster Sugar

• 1 medium egg

• 75ml Whole Milk

• 75ml Double Cream

• 175g Sultanas

• A pinch of salt

Method:

Pre-heat oven to 180°C/160°C fan.

– Tip the flour into a bowl and add butter. Rub in with fingertips until the mix looks like fine breadcrumbs. Stir in the caster sugar.

– Mix in sultanas and bring together with eggs, milk and cream.

Jarrold’s Top Tip

Don’t overwork the mix. Just bring together until this makes a consistent dough and isn’t too wet.

– Roll or push to 1”/2.5cm thick, cut with desired cutter. Place on a lined baking tray, Brush to the top with egg or milk and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

– Remove and cool on wire rack.
