Finish off your interior design with some fabulous Roman blinds.
One of the most important design choices of a room is how to dress your windows. This can be overlooked so easily and can make or break the room. Roman blinds are a great alternative to curtains, or can be twined with curtains to create a really theatrical feel. Personally, I love the soft texture and folds of a Roman blind, and the design possibilities are endless. Get the window dressing right and you can compliment and enhance all of the other design aspects of the interior.
So what is a Roman blind? Roman blinds are made from fabric that is designed to pleat when raised. The blinds are constructed by mounting slats, which are connected to cords or chains, into the back of a fabric panel. When the blind is lifted, the cords pull the slats together and force the blind to fold into pleats.
Different types and styles of fabric can be used; from silk and linen to cotton and synthetics. However, it is worth thinking about the location of the blind and its function whilst selecting the fabric. Remember it must be fit for purpose. Does the fabric need to be hard wearing? Do you require a black out blind? Will the finished blind be traditional or cascade? If you endeavour to ensure you have addressed all of the practical needs first then you will avoid any design compromises at a later date.
A quality Roman blind will certainly block out the sun when its at it’s strongest and will add warmth to your room during the winter months. These are also known as Roman shades and are often chain operated, having moved on from eyelets and cord. Chains come in a good selection of colours, which compliment the rest of the hardware. Some of my favourite design projects I have worked on incorporate a rechargeable lithium battery system. This means you no longer need to run electrical wiring around the room to accommodate such technologies and have the luxury of operating them from your remote handset. With easy in situ charging, which usually only takes around four hours, and with average usage you will only need to charge the units every four months. Not a bad return for such a neat and tidy system.
Here at JHD Interiors we can accommodate most widths and drops using different gearing ratios, and installing with either a recess mounting or face fixing. If face fixing is selected then we can finish off the design with a bespoke pelmet, the choice is yours.
Safety is paramount. This is why all of our blinds are child friendly and the demands of BBSA (British Blind and Shutter Associations) regulations are adhered to.
We have an extensive range of fabrics to choose from and all our blinds are fully lined offering that luxury feel. Pop along and see us to discuss and select your fabric or alternatively allow us to come to you for a free no obligation quote.
