ARTS & CULTURE
Weekend Nov-20
Here at Places & Faces HQ we’ve been busy choosing our top picks for safely going out or snuggling up inside this November. Here’s what’s happening locally and on your TV screen this month…
As the lockdown eases and we see some sort of normality returning to our lives – ‘the new normal’ as we like to call it, I have found myself reflecting on what occupied my mind during the last few months. I am an avid reader but found that my mind wouldn’t focus. Wandering into the exciting worlds that every new book has to offer but unable to make it past chapter five. Still I desperately needed the escapism that a good story provided. Instead I have found myself in a different form of departure from the reality we found ourselves in… the world of the box set. I watched a lot during the lockdown, not all award winning. But here are my top three. Reese Witherspoon features twice. She certainly is a long way from Leagally Blonde (2001) which scored a respectable 6.3 on IMDB. However these two score much higher Little Fires Everywhere – 7.8 and The Morning Show – 8.4. Well worth a watch what ever the weather.
STAYING IN
WATCH
The Crown, season four
15 November
Netflix’s content crown jewels, at last The Crown is back to reign supreme and provide us with yet more biographical drama, stunning sets and meticulously accurate costumes.
Season four is likely to bring us into the 1980s and early 90s, a memorably tumultuous time for the royal family, and will see us meeting Diana, Princess of Wales (played by newcomer Emma Corrin) and the formidable Margaret Thatcher (played by the frankly far too sexy Gillian Anderson). Per tradition, Olivia Coleman will reprise the role of Queen Elizabeth for the final time, before being succeeded by Imelda Staunton for the last two seasons. Get practising your curtsies and yes ma’am’s, this looks set to be a binge-worthy watch.

That’s where Cocktail Canaries come in – choose from a range of ready to pour and serve flavours including Norfolk Berry Bramble, Salted Caramel Espresso Martini and Mango Margarita (for Norfolk residents) or Honeycomb Old Fashioned, Jaffa Cake Negroni and – our personal recommendation if you’ll be tuning into The Crown – Her Majesty’s Iced Tea (for nationwide customers).
