Angela Black
ITV, 26 October
Angela Black’s life appears idyllic: a house in suburban London, days working volunteer shifts at a dogs home, two beautiful sons and a charming, hard-working husband – Olivier. However, beneath this façade of charmed domesticity, Angela, played by Joanne Froggatt, is a victim of domestic violence. Olivier (Michiel Huisman) is controlling and brutal; but Angela loves him and he’s the father of her children. So she covers her bruises with make-up and fabricates lies to explain away her missing teeth. Angela Black is a Hitchcockian thriller that follows one woman as she risks everything she holds dear to fight back against the man who has suppressed and tormented her for most of her adult life.
Ted Lasso
Apple TV+, 8 October
This month see’s the season finale of the amazing second season of this heart warming comedy. It is not surprising season three is already planned, especially after the awards it scooped up at the Emmy’s. Heart-warming and funny, we could all learn from Ted Lasso’s leadership lessons: 1 believe in believe, 2 live in the moment, 3 doin’ the right thing is never the wrong thing, 4 all people are different people, 5 optimism is a superpower, 6 be kind, 7 tell the truth, 8 happiness is a choice, 9 forgive first and 10 see the good in others. Well worth the Apple TV+ subscription fee on its own.
Wayland Babes
by Judi Daykin
North Norfolk author Judi’s new book is about The Wayland Woods in Norfolk – an ancient place where sound and silence, truth and myth, and life and death intertwine. Some say that the babes of the woods still walk the Earth –wandering through the trees, forever lost, holding hands and searching for help. To see them is a terrible omen. Five tales tell of five lives touched over five centuries by the so-called babes in the wood. If they beckon, will you follow?
